SPIRES TAKES THE HIGH GROUND FOR CHARITY

Serviced suites specialist The Spires has joined forces with ChildLine Scotland to help raise money for the 24-hour children’s helpline.

The company are embarking on several fund-raising initiatives based in their superior Glasgow suites Bothwell Street, Glasgow and in Great Western Road, Aberdeen.

A donation envelope will be placed in all guest rooms, inviting guests to donate to ChildLine all their loose or unwanted change. The envelope can then be dropped in reception upon check-out.  In addition the com[any has pedged to donate 50 pence for every feedback form completed by their guests.

A pin badge and collecting can will be placed at reception if guests wish to make a donation. Staff have also agreed to take part in fund-raising campaigns and events for the charity.

Managing Director Margaret Beattie said: “All the staff wanted to be involved with ChildLine because it’s a charity that people know and understand. It provides a vital service to young people and we’re very proud to be supporting such an important charity.

“We have a strong sense of corporate responsibility at The Spires, both within the company and amongst the employees. We wanted to reflect this in our business activity and see our association with ChildLine as an ideal opportunity to demonstrate this. Our involvement not only allows our staff to get involved through fundraising, it also allows our guests to contribute, which is vitally important.”

The Spires first opened in Aberdeen in 1995 and their Glasgow site opened in 2003 offering serviced suites to business and leisure travellers. Birmingham will be added to its portfolio early next year with more locations following.

The company joins a list of high-profile names who have entered into a partnership with ChildLine Scotland, such as The Walker Group, BT Scotland, Black & Lizars, Livingston Football Club, Ernst & Young, Atkins Global, Marriott Hotels and BCW group.

The serviced suites group offer a high quality alternative to traditional hotels or leased city accommodation. Extremely competitive rates have ensured a huge increase in bookings, particularly among business users.

ChildLine is the free, confidential helpline for children in distress or danger, and is manned by fully-trained volunteer counsellors.

In 2004-2005 the charity had to raise just under £1.5million in Scotland to maintain the services for children and young people.

NOTES TO EDITORS:

1.  ChildLine is the UK’s free helpline for children and young people. Trained volunteer counsellors comfort, advise and protect children and young people 24 hours a day, every day. The number for children to call is 0800 1111. Lack of funds means that lines can be busy, so children may have to dial a number of times before they get through.

2.  ChildLine Scotland is one of ChildLine’s ten counselling centres around the UK, and answers children calling from across Scotland at peak times (from 3.30pm to 10.30pm). At all other times calls are automatically diverted to ChildLine’s 24-hour counselling centre in London.
